{"id":83,"date":"2019-03-06T19:17:48","date_gmt":"2019-03-06T19:17:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.jerdill.com\/danhill\/?p=83"},"modified":"2019-05-17T20:38:32","modified_gmt":"2019-05-17T20:38:32","slug":"daniels-hill-society-march-newsletter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.jerdill.com\/danhill\/2019\/03\/06\/daniels-hill-society-march-newsletter\/","title":{"rendered":"Daniel&#8217;s Hill Society March Newsletter"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td>Daniel&#8217;s Hill Spring Dinner.\n\n<br>\nThe Daniel&#8217;s Hill Society will hold it&#8217;s Spring Dinner at the Joseph \nNichols Tavern on 5th Street on Saturday, May 4th.&nbsp; Our very own Jim \nScow will give a presentation on &#8220;The Missing Buildings of Daniel&#8217;s \nHill.&#8221;&nbsp; This will be the same presentation he gave to the Lynchburg \nHistorical Foundation.&nbsp; However, we will give him more time which should\n mean he&#8217;ll be able to give us even more information!<br>\n<br>\nThe dinner will once again be catered by Jason Nagel who served a \ndelicious meal last year. We will begin at 5:00 pm with a time to \nsocialize.&nbsp; Dinner will served at 6:00 pm and Mr. Scow&#8217;s presentation \nwill begin at 7:00 pm.&nbsp; We will be done by 8:00 pm.<br>\n<br>\nBill Holt, owner of the Joseph Nichols Tavern has once again loaned out \nhis property to the society and we want to thank him for his \ngenerosity.&nbsp;This year we are hoping to be able to take advantage of his \nbeautiful garden for the socializing part of the dinner from 5:00 to \n6:00 pm.&nbsp; It&#8217;s worth the price of the ticket just to get to see this \nbeautiful historical tavern where Thomas Jefferson used to stay.<br>\n<br>\nSince this is the society&#8217;s major fundraiser, tickets are $25 a piece.&nbsp; \nWith the quality of the venue, meal and presentation, this is one of the\n best bargains in Lynchburg.&nbsp; For tickets or questions, please call \nTucker Cole at 434-845-2657.\n\n                        \n                    \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n\t\t\t\t\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n\t\n        \n            \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n                    \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                            \n                                \n                                    \n                                        Adopt-A-Street Cleanup&nbsp;Day<br>\n&nbsp;\n\nThe Daniel&#8217;s Hill Society will be \nconducting a neighborhood cleanup this Saturday, March 9th.&nbsp; Anyone \nwishing to participate is asked to meet at 412 Cabell Street to pick up \nsupplies.&nbsp; Tucker will&nbsp;issue yellow vests, gloves, bags and litter \npickup sticks.&nbsp; Chris Hamilton will guide the clean-up crew and the area\n to be cleaned is&nbsp;the D Street Bridge and adjoining blocks.&nbsp; This \nshouldn&#8217;t take more than an hour or two, so please come out and join \nyour neighbors to help.\n\n                                    \n                                \n                            \n                        \n                    \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n\t\t\t\t\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n\t\n        \n            \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n                    \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                            \n                                \n                                    \n                                        Daniel&#8217;s Hill Society on Instagram!<br>\n\n\nCarrie Appel has created an Instagram \naccount for the Daniel&#8217;s Hill Society and the username \nis&nbsp;@daniels_hill_society.&nbsp; Look it up and send photos are recommend \nother content.&nbsp;\n\n                                    \n                                \n                            \n                        \n                    \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n\t\t\t\t\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n              \t\n\t\t\t    \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n                    \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                            \n\nWe\n had a great time at the Pot-Luck Dinner with some very delicious food.&nbsp;\n A big thanks goes out to everyone who brought a dish, as it was truly \nfantastic!&nbsp; Below are a few pictures that shows a few of the 28 people \nin attendance.&nbsp; We had a good mixture of new people or regulars that \nshowed up from all over Daniel&#8217;s Hill.&nbsp; The remainder of this newsletter\n will touch on some of the things we discussed in the meeting.<br>\n\n\n                        \n                    \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n\t\t\t\t\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n                \n                    \n                        \n                            \n                        \n                    \n                \n\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n              \t\n\t\t\t    \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n                    \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                            Daniel&#8217;s Hill Chess Club\n\n<br>\n<br>\nArt Wells is starting the Daniel&#8217;s Hill Chess Club&nbsp; Art has created a \nFacebook group&nbsp;page for the club which shows 16 members presently.&nbsp; For \nmore information call 434-534-7438 or search Daniels Hill Chess Club on \nFacebook and where the page is easy to find. You may also email Art at ghputis_503@yahoo.com.&nbsp;&nbsp;\n\n                        \n                    \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n\t\t\t\t\n            \n        \n    \n\n                                        \n                                    \n                                    \n                                <\/td><\/tr><tr><td>\n                                    \n                                    \n                                        \n                                            \n    \n        \n            \n              \t\n\t\t\t    \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n                    \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                            <br>\nMarch Board Meeting\n\nThe Daniel&#8217;s Hill Society Board meeting \nwill take place at 7:00 pm on Thursday, March 14th.&nbsp; We will be \ndiscussing the upcoming Spring Dinner scheduled for Saturday, May 4th at\n the Joseph Nichols Tavern on 5th Street.&nbsp; We will also be discussing \nproperties in the neighborhood that need special attention as we attempt\n to improve Daniel&#8217;s Hill for everyone.<br>\n<br>\nThe meeting will held at 412 Cabell Street in the ballroom on the left \nof the house as you enter.&nbsp; Everyone is encouraged to attend.\n\n                        \n                    \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n\t\t\t\t\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n              \t\n\t\t\t    \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n                    \n                        \n                        \n                        \n                            February&nbsp;Business Meeting\n\nThe\n February Business Meeting was called into order at 7am by Bill Hawkins,\n President of the Daniel&#8217;s Hill Society. Nine people were in attendance \nat 412 Cabell Street, where Chris Hamilton has opened the ballroom of \nhis rental house for the society to hold its meetings.<br>\n<br>\nAfter the reading of the Secretary&#8217;s and Treasure&#8217;s Report we proceeded \nonto old business and discussed plans for the upcoming Spring Dinner to \nbe held toward on May 4th.&nbsp; We finalized plans for the Adopt-A-Street \ncleanup day to be held on Saturday, March 9th at 10:00 am.&nbsp; Art Wells \nspoke about starting a chess club in Daniel&#8217;s Hill to meet at the \ncommunity center.&nbsp; We also talk about properties in the neighborhood \nwhich needed special attention as we work to make Daniel&#8217;s Hill a better\n place for everyone to live.&nbsp; Claire Brown spoke about the Hospitality \nCommittee and asked if anyone knew someone new to the neighborhood, or \nwho simply needed some help. to let he know.&nbsp; The meeting adjourned at \n8:05 pm.\n\n                        \n                    \n                \n\t\t\t\t\n                \n\t\t\t\t\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n                \n                    \n                        \n                            \n                        \n                    \n                \n\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n                \n                    \n                        \n                            \n                        \n                    \n                \n\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n                \n                    \n                        \n                            \n                        \n                    \n                \n\n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n                \n\n\n\n\n    \n        \n            \n                \n                    \n                    \n                        \n                        <a href=\"mailto:danielshilleditor@yahoo.com\" class=\"\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">\n                        \n\n                        \n                        <\/a>\n\n                    \n                    \n                \n            \n            \n                \n                    \n                        Claire\n Brown needs volunteers for the committee to provide a welcoming gift \nand information for new families.&nbsp; Some people may need help on a \ntemporary basis with a lawn, or some other need where we can be of \nassistance, such as a ride to the&nbsp;hospital.&nbsp; &nbsp;If you&#8217;d like to help, we \nhope to see you at the meeting, or let us know by emailing \ndanielshilleditor@yahoo.com.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daniel&#8217;s Hill Spring Dinner.
